Mount Ararat or Ağrı Dağı in Türkiye, literally translated as “Mountain of Pain” is a double -peaked volcano (Greater Ararat 5137m and Lesser Ararat/Little Ararat 3896m) located at the eastern region of Türkiye in the borders of Armenia and Iran. According to the biblical book of Genesis, this is the mystical final resting place of Noah’s Ark and yet one of the most challenging adventures for those who seek for stunning landscape of the Highest and Largest Volcano in Türkiye.
Brief Itinerary
Day 1: Airport to Doğubayazıt
– Meet our guide at Domestic Airport (Van/Ağri/Iğdir) and drive to Doğubayazıt (1-2hrs). On the way, we will stop by at the stunning Muradiye waterfall which was named after Ottoman IV.
– Check in at our hotel in Doğubayazıt
– Have a welcome dinner in a local restaurant.
– Our guide will give a program briefing and do a final equipment checkup
– Overnight in Hotel (Doğubayazıt)
Day 2: Ascent to Camp 1
– After breakfast, transfer by minibus to Cevirme Village at 2200m elevation.
– Transfer all baggages to Camp 1 by mules
– Begin our ascent from Cevirme village (2200m) to Camp 1 (3200m)
– Food, drinks and refreshment will be ready for us at Camp 1
– Together we set up our tents and mattresses. Free time on the afternoon
– Have dinner and short briefing for tomorrow // 10PM lights out
– Overnight in Tent (Ararat Camp1)
Day 3: Acclimatization Hike and back to Camp 1
– To help your body adapt properly to the altitude, after breakfast, we will take a packed lunch and hike to 4000m
– Stay at 4000m for 30-60 minutes, taking pictures, exploring wild flowers and volcanic landscape
– Come back to Camp 1 and rest, free time on the afternoon
– Have dinner and short briefing for tomorrow // 10PM lights out
– Overnight in Tent (Ararat Camp1)
Day 4: Ascent to Camp 2
– Before breakfast, pack your baggages and tents ready for transferring to Camp 2 by mules
– After breakfast, begin our ascent to Camp 2 (4200m)
– Before dinner, our guide will check your equipments for the summit push (e.g. crampons, shoes, trekking poles, headlamps)
– Have early dinner around 5PM and sleep early
– Overnight in Tent (Ararat Camp2)
Day 5: Summit Push and back to Camp 1
– Have early breakfast around 1-2AM, take a packed lunch
– We will ascend through rocky terrains for 5-6 hrs until reaching the crampon point which is around 200m before the summit.
– At the summit of Ararat 5137m, we will be mesmerized with the view beyond Türkiye, Iran, and Armenia borders.
– After summit, we descend to Camp 2 for some rest (1-2hrs) and refill our energy
– Pack our tents and baggages and they will be transferred to Camp 1 by mules
– Descend to Camp 1 (2 hrs)
– Have dinner and celebrate our success // 10PM lights out
– Overnight in Tent (Ararat Camp1)
Day 6: Transfer to Doğubayazıt
– After breakfast, we descend to Cevirme village (2-3 hrs) and transfer to Doğubayazıt by a minibus
– Check in and refresh ourselves at the hotel in Doğubayazıt.
– Visit 17th century Ishak Pasa Palace and visit the footprint of Noah’s Ark site.
– Celebration dinner at a local restaurant.
– Overnight in Hotel (Doğubayazıt)
Day 7: Transfer to Airport
– After breakfast, transfer to Domestic airport (Van/Ağri/Iğdir)
– Say goodbye to our guide and bring wonderful memories home
- Transportation from domestic airport (Van, Iğdır, or Ağrı) to Doğubeyazıt
- Transportation from Doğubeyazıt to domestic airport (Van, Iğdır, or Ağrı)
- All transportations to and back from Mount Ararat and cultural sites
- Mule services for baggages and other equipments on Mount Ararat
- 2 nights with breakfast in a hotel in Doğubayazıt (twin-sharing room)
- 1 Welcome dinner on Day 1 in Doğubayazıt
- Professional Local Guide, Assistants, Cook, Camp Manager and Staffs
- Crampons for summit attack
